Malinowy Ożarowski is an excellent Polish slicing tomato with a distinctive pinkish raspberry colour.
The fruits are nice looking large tomatoes with slightly ribbed pink skin and a somewhat flattened globe shape. They weigh on avg. 120-200g but can be 300g in good conditions. The meat is deliciously creamy and juicy with sweet berry notes and good tomato flavours with low to no notes of acid.
Perfect eaten fresh straight off the vine or on bread with sea salt.
The plants are relatively cool tolerant and will continue to be productive until terminated by frost. They are vigorous as well as productive and we found that they need good supports. With fruits ripening in about 55 days from transplant they are ideal for shorter and cooler growing seasons.
Some background
Malinowy Ożarowski was developed in
Ożarów Mazowiecki around 1980-90, perhaps from older Malinowy heirloom lines. It has been in the public domain since 2024 and can now feely be used in seed saving communities.
“Malinowy” translates as “raspberry”, which is a nod to its distinctive raspberry like colour. There are in fact several pink skinned heirloom tomatoes called Malinowy, e.g. Malinowy Warszawski (Warsaw Raspberry) or Malinowy Olbrzym (Raspberry Giant). They are all very popular due their excellent taste and hardiness.
We decided to grow Malinowy Ożarowski as an experiment when multiple polish speaking friends independently recommended Malinowy tomatoes to us. We can understand why.
