Wheatly’s Frost Resistant

€3.00

Wheatly’s Frost Resistant is a very productive early cherry tomato that has impressed us with its hardiness and long season. It was the first tomato to fruit and the last tomato to give us viable fruit in 2024.

Its growth is vigorous and with the weight of the crop it does require good tall support.

The tomatoes have a fresh slightly pink hue with a plum shape and a smooth firm flesh. It is said to be crack resistant, although we did observe the odd one that was cracked. The flavour is pleasantly balanced and often described as a combination of tart and sweet. It may be slightly more tart than sweet, but this may vary depending on growing conditions.

The flavour is admittedly not as sweet or distinct as Gardeners Delight, but it is a good tomato flavour and it cropped better when we grew them side by side. The tomatoes are a solid choice for salads, sandwiches, snacks etc. or in cooking.

Wheatly’s Frost Resistant is a forgiving variety that should give a decent result even in a bad year. It should do quite well in a reasonable outdoor location.
