Lucky Leprechaun is an early cropping hardy bush tomato with medium-sized fleshy red fruits (30-60g).
During the summer of 2024 it was grown outdoors as part of a small community breeding trial. It was great to see the Lucky Leprechaun standing out by cropping so early and having a relatively good crop despite the challenging summer.
The Lucky Leprechaun has a stout bushy growth habit with a good yield of red round tomatoes. The fruit has a mild pleasant tomato flavour making it a good choice for salads, canning etc. We found the flesh and seed cavity to be a bit similar to beef tomatoes, just in a smaller size.
This is a heirloom variety with Irish roots, possibly from the early 1900s. Perhaps it does so well in the local climate because it has been grown here for such a long time.
