Borlotto Lingua di Fuoco 2

3.00

Borlotto Lingua di Fuoco 2 is the climbing version of the classic Italian heirloom borlotti bean. It is often simply called “Lingua di Fuoco” which means tongue of fire due to its decorative pods.

The pods mature slightly later than on the bush variety. But since it is quite vigorous and tall the climbing version will produce a lot of pods on a small footprint until the frost terminates the plant.

Mature fresh beans are famous for their excellent creamy texture with nutty bean flavours.

Lingua di Fuoco is a very versatile variety which is often said to have tree culinary uses

  • young tender pods can be eaten as french beans
  • mature pods can be shelled for tender, creamy borlotti beans. Great in salads, “pasta e fagioli”, or lightly boiled with olive oil.
  • the beans can also be dried and used later. Perfect for soups, stews, minestrone, casseroles etc.
